Information for Seniors

SAT/ACT/NCAA SCHOOL CODE: 390042

Congratulations! You’re finally a senior! The purpose of the senior interview is to review your course history to ensure you have met the requirements to graduate from Hopewell High School. And yes, attendance counts and you must pass every single class this year to participate in the graduation ceremonies! We will also discuss your plans following graduation and how we may assist you. Please check out the guidance bulletin board (outside the cafeteria) for new information. The following is information you may need as you begin to fill-out college applications and search for financial assistance.

Transcripts: A request for transcripts can be completed online by CLICKING HERE.  You can also use a Transcript Request Card which can be obtained from the front office secretaries. Complete the online form or the request card including the college address. “Official” transcripts must be mailed from the school. They cannot be given to a student. At the end of the year, you will complete a form in homeroom to let us know where you want your final transcripts mailed. (Please allow one week for processing).

College Applications: If an application requires a section to be completed by your counselor, all other sections must be completed in their entirety before you give it to your counselor. You must also include an addressed, stamped envelope with your application. Your application will be mailed from the office. (Please allow one week for processing).

Letters of Recommendation: If your application calls for recommendation letters or a section on the application that requires counselor comments, please give a list of all your activities, volunteer work, employment history and grades to the person you are requesting to write the letter. You may use the Student Activities handout. (Please allow two – three weeks).

In-House College/University Visits: Students who are interested in signing up for in house college/university visits may sign up in the office. You must sign up by 11:00 a.m. the day prior in order to attend. Your name will go on the absentee sheet for the day of the visit. Students are responsible for all course work they miss from their classes. College applications and catalogs for review are available in the library.

Campus Visits for College/University/Tech School Visits: Students, and their parents/guardians, can schedule campus visits directly with the schools they want to visit. If the visit is scheduled during the school day, you must turn in a parent/guardian note to the main office PRIOR to the visit stating the date, time and location of visit. At the school visit, request a letter of verification written on the college/university/tech school’s letter head. You will need to turn this into the main office the following day. Students are responsible for all course work they miss from their classes.

NCAA: If you plan on playing a sport in college for a Division I or Division II school, and have not yet registered with the NCAA clearinghouse, it is imperative that you do this ASAP!! You may register online at www.ncaaclearinghouse.net. It is you responsibility to make sure you have the required amount of 14 core courses and that they match the list of Hopewell’s approved courses. Hopewell’s approved course list can be found on the website. Also, make sure to type code 9999 when registering for the ACTs or SATs to ensure your scores are sent directly to the clearinghouse.

Scholarships: The Guidance Office distributes a Scholarship Newsletter monthly to all teachers. A copy should be posted in your homeroom. You may also obtain a copy in the Guidance Office. Check out the newsletter every month and start applying for the scholarships! Scholarship applications are available in Mrs. Vanyo’s office. If an application requires a section to be completed by your counselor, all other sections must be completed in their entirety before you give it to your counselor. You must also include an addressed, stamped envelope with your application. Your application will be mailed from the office. (Please allow one week for processing). There are several free scholarship websites that allow you to search for thousands of available monies for colleges & trade schools. Please refer to your “Helpful Websites” handout.

Financial Aid: All students interested in financial aid are required to complete a FAFSA (Free Application for Student Aid) form. These forms are available in the Guidance office, BUT IT IS RECOMMENDED TO COMPLETE THE FAFSA ONLINE AT www.fafsa.ed.gov. It is in your best interest to complete these forms as soon as possible after January 1st. Completing this form will make you eligible for all available federal and state financial aid, including grants and scholarships.

May Day: If you have received any type of an award or special recognition and would like it to be mentioned in the May Day program, you will need to complete a May Day form which can be picked up in the guidance office in April. You must bring in a copy of your letter for verification to be attached to the form. All forms must be turned in by the specified dates (no exceptions –this is due to the time allotment for printing of the program). More information will be given on the announcements in April.
